Description:

This is an excellent example of a late WWII Model 1903A4 sniper rifle as manufactured by the Remington arms company that has the rare "Z" prefix serial number with a later replacement scant grip stock. This rifle was manufactured in the 3rd and final block of serial numbers with approximately 2290 total were made. The receiver has the correct offset markings on the left side of "U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 03A3" with the serial number "Z4000834" on the right side. It is fitted with the correct square end scope base that is marked "REDFIELD" on the right rear side. It has the correct 3/4 inch Redfield gray parkerized scope rings with the heat treated windage screws. The front end of the barrel is roll-marked "R.A. 9-43" and it has the correct front sight slot milled into the barrel with no front sight base installed. It has the correct stamped, barrel bands, sling swivels, trigger guard with the enlarged trigger guard, and butt plate, with the correct 1903A4 Remington sniper bolt that has the low forged bolt handle marked with the "R" on the underside. It is fitted with a post war 1903A4 scant grip wartime walnut stock and hand guard that is marked with a small "K" in the cutoff. The stock is stamped with the following proofs; Remington Arms "RA" proof, the Ordnance Corp crossed-cannon proof, the "FJA" proof of the US Ordnance inspector, which has been stamped upside down. Inside the pistol grip area is single circled "P" proof with the various small Remington sub-inspector proofs also restamped in front of the rigger guard. It is equipped with a late WWII Weaver MN73B1 sniper scope with a standard cross-hair reticule that is marked on the nomenclature plate; "TELESCOPE, M73B1/PAT. PATD-PATS-PEND/W.R. WEAVER CO./EL Paso Tx." and below the nomenclature plate it is roll-marked, "TELESCOPE NO. 23381". It has a green/gray GI parkerized finish on the barrel, receiver, bolt and trigger guard with the blued finish on the barrel bands, hand guard ring, lower sling swivel and cut-off lever. The stock and hand guard have all oil finish and the scope has the original commercial blued finish. It is complete with a dark brown unmarked WWII style leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 98% of the blue/parkerized finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear overall. The stock and hand guard are both in excellent condition with no handling marks. The scope retains 99% of the original commercial blued finish with crystal clear optics with sharp markings. A very nice example of a scarce "Z" prefix WWII 1903A4 sniper rifle.
