This is an example of an OSS shipped Colt Model 1903 Hammerless Pocket Automatic pistol. The Colt factory letter that accompanies this pistol states that it was shipped to the "Commanding Officer, Supply Division, Office of Strategic Services" (OSS) in Rosslyn, Virginia on June 17, 1944. The right side of the frame is roll-stamped: "U.S. PROPERTY" in the small letter format used until August 1944. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the Colt 'Triangle/VP' proof mark below the prick punch Ordnance inspection mark applied to M1903 pistols from February to October 1944. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped with the elongated, two line, Colt patent dates and Hartford address. The Rampant Colt trademark is stamped behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide is roll-stamped: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines. The serial number, "558992" is stamped above the trigger guard on the left side of the frame. The two-tone magazine is stamped "CAL.32/COLT" in two lines on the floor plate. The pistol has the early, rounded, rear sight and half-moon front sight. The slide has seventeen serrations. The pistol is complete with a commercial, unmarked, brown, calfskin holster with retaining strap and snap and a sewn belt loop. The U.S. purchased 17,337 Colt Model .32 Pistols during WWII; approximately 6700 of these pistols had a blue finish and the remainder were parkerized. Experts estimate that the OSS received between 3000 and 6000 Colt Model 32 Pistols during WWII.

Near excellent. The pistol retains approximately 85% of the slightly faded original Colt blue finish. The finish on the top of the slide and the grip strap is thin. The slide and frame have moderate handling wear. The walnut grips are in very good condition with some flattening on the checkering. The magazine has about 85% of the two-tone finish. The bore is bright. The markings on the slide and frame are crisp. The holster is in good condition with moderate handling wear. The stitching on the seams is tight. The brass drain grommets in the bottom of the holster are missing. This is a very good example of a desirable OSS Colt Model 1903 Hammerless Pocket Automatic Pistol with blue finish.
