Description:

This device was made for testing the accuracy of ammunition batches at the Frankford Arsenal and utilizes a standard Springfield Model 1903 receiver with the forearm cut off at the breech and the stock cut down to a pistol grip configuration. The receiver has the standard markings and the matching serial number has been electro penciled into the top of the bolt. The barrel itself is heavy, 23 1/4" finished bright with a 1 1/2" band 4 inches from the muzzle and 3 3/4" from the breech end. The top of the barrel is stamped "5/28/42" at the breech and the top is electro penciled "Rec.# 1515806 Bar. # 1 Ser # 155 L.-.3002" G. .3081". The underside is stamped with the number "26"behind the rear band and " unreadable circled marking / C642772 / D1814 / SER - NO - 155 / SA F / T2" and a larger "D" and "P" ahead of the rear band. There is a gold painted strip around the barrel at the center.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal assembled, retaining approximately 95% parkerized finish on the receiver, with wear on the extractor and bolt. The barrel retains approximately 85% original bright finish with scattered discoloration. The stock is very good with numerous minor dings and dents. The action is excellent.
