According to the included Colt factory letter, this revolver is a prototype revolver kept by the Colt factory, believed to have been an experimental leading to the Python series. The factory letter confirms the serial number (serial range from Trooper model),38 special caliber, 2 inch shrouded barrel, blue finish with three polished test spots on frame and side plate, checkered walnut service grips with nickel finish Rampant Colt medallions and was shipped on October 16, 2008. As the letter states, the revolver has a Trooper model hammer profile, maker and address marking on right barrel side, open sights and service style hammer. The left side of the frame has the Rampant Colt.

Excellent, retaining approximately 95% original blue finish with a moderate cylinder drag line, some minor muzzle wear and three patches of smooth gray patina as part of factory testing, along with a few minor dings (mostly on the trigger guard). Without crane retaining screw. The grips are very good with the exception of a chipped toe and some minor dings and scratches. Overall the checkering is crisp.
