Description:

Manufactured from 1865 to 1866. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" (half of marking remains). The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "M. 1865" and "W" on the left side. Standard ladder type military rear sight, sling swivel on butt and saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left side. Buttstock is marked with two cartouches on the left side (at a 90 degree angle).

Rating Definition:

Good. The carbine has a balance between a smooth brown patina and a mottled gray patina. There is some pin point pitting. The refinished stock is very good with a few filled repairs mostly near the buttplate, a hairline crack on the buttstock and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically good.
