Description:

This is the scarce and desirable Type 2 Japanese takedown "Paratrooper" rifle. These rifles were based on the Type 99 rifle series and were designed to have a removable barrel so that they could be stored in a canvas parachutist's jump bag. These rifles are all NO series rifles that were manufactured at the Toriimatsu factory under Nagoya Arsenal control. The top of the receiver has the Chrysanthemum (which is unharmed) and Kanji markings for "2/ Rifle". The left side of the receiver is marked with the assembly number, serial number and the Nagoya arsenal "fighting fish" factory mark. It has the later production tangent rear sight graduated to 1500 meters with the thin anti-aircraft wings, peep sight and an inverted "V" front with guards. It has the two piece stock with the cupped buttplate, side mounted sling swivels and a drain hole in the underside of the forearm. The front barrel band is the two screw model and the rear is the later plain slotted pattern. The barrel, receiver, and takedown hardware are all numbered "473", with the underside of the barrel and the bolt numbered to match the frame. With an original Nagoya proofed paratrooper bayonet and scabbard, with 7 3/4" blade, smooth grips and metal sheath, and a brown leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Good, with 60% of the original blue finish, showing a smooth brown and gray patina, signs of pitting and scattered dents and handling marks. Stock is good, with a large cut in the upper hand guard and scratches, dents and dark spots overall. The sling shows a large amount of cracking, and the bayonet has been cleaned and sharpened. Mechanically excellent.
