Description:

This early Navy Company line throwing rifle has a blue barrel marked "45-70" near the breech. The casehardened frame is marked "NAVAL CO. ROSLYN, PA. U.S.A." on the left side. Smooth pistol grip stock with checkered hard rubber buttplate with blank circle. Today, Navy Company continues to manufacture line throwing guns. Included are three boxes of Remington-UMC 45 Government cartridges for a harpoon gun. Each box featured is wrapped in brown paper (covering Remington-UMC label) and have a Naval Company lid label with the Pennsylvania address with the number of cartridges hand written in pencil. The boxes are capable of holding 50 rounds each (49/50 rounds, 50/50, 48/50). Two boxes have the additional hand written marking in black ink: "E. Palmer / Harpoon (sic) / gun".

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains approximately 70% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is some minor spotting, along with some scattered mild pitting. The frame retains approximately 60% case colors with the balance a smooth brown patina. The wood is very fine with some minor dings and scratches, along with a few minor dents and some spotting of white on the buttstock. The boxes are fair. Each box has been extensively repaired with transparent packing tape, but the complete and clear labels remain untouched.
