Description:

Originally produced as a U.S. Springfield 1903 rifle, and later altered by the W.H. Reisner Mfg Company under a Navy contract (NX50-31938) and so marked inside the lid, into a naval line throwing gun. The front and rear sights have been removed, the barrel is marked, Springfield "7-42", and the rear sight base still present, marked "XTC-45" on the side. Smooth straight grip stock with Atwood inspector mark and a recoil pad. The forearm has been cut down with the line drum fitted to the underside and roughly 2 pounds of lead ballast added to the buttstock. This line-throwing rig is complete in a hardwood case, with naval markings on top, makers tag on the inside, two "light" projectiles, two "heavy" projectiles, two "illuminated buoyant" projectiles, 20 sealed rounds of grenade launching ammunition, cleaning tools, and three reels of line and manual.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% GI parkerized finish overall. The top of the receiver and rear sight base show some light pitting and was probably the reason it was chosen for conversion. Accessories are in excellent condition, with some chipping, cracking and scuffing of the case.
