Description:

Blade is 8 1/4" in length, spear tipped double edged, with a 5" long panel of etched scrollwork on each side; one is decorated with floral patterns, the other an array of arms and flags. Oval silver hand guard, with a ribbed pattern along the sides and a silver throat. Tang is full length, running to a silver plug at the base of the grip, which is a smooth single piece of ebony, showing decorative edges and a silver panel inscribed "Pi??? Co.H???ul". With a brown leather sheath, fitted with silver finished brass tip and throat, the latter inscribed "A. Jax Esq."

Rating Definition:

Very good as cleaned, showing light spotting and handling marks on the blade, with 85% of the original etched pattern visible. A few tiny pits are visible in the guard, which otherwise shows a fine color. Grip is good, with a crack running from the collar to the initial plate, a few tiny chips, and some signs of cleaning on the silver. Sheath is good, with flaking concentrated around the edges, scuffing, and 80% of the aged, near black original silver on the brass, with a fine dark patina on the exposed sections.
