Description:

Produced in Sheffield. 6 3/4 inch spear point double edged blade, with a tapered down ricasso marked "J. MORETON & Co./ WARRANTED" on one side under a faint bird shaped marking. German silver cross guards, with raised floral and leaf designs, and similar pommel accents, with grapevine and leaf decoration. Grip scales are smooth ivory, with a silver initial shield on one side. With a leather veneer sheath, decorated with gold accents, and silver tip and throat. Knives by this maker in this style have been noted as privately purchased sidearms from the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Good. Pitting is visible on the blade, which shows a mixed bright and dull gray patina. The cross guards on one side have been broken and replaced, with the guards and pommel showing mild dings. Grips are excellent, with light age cracking and a beautiful aged patina. Sheath is good, with some scuffing of the leather and weld separation of the silver.
