Description:

Established in Pittsburgh in 1848, Bown & Tetley was a producer of arms through the Civil War, and remained active into the 1880s. Blade measures 11inches in length, with a 5 inch sharpened back clip, a subtle inward curve to the leading edge, a finger rest in the front of the ricasso and "BOWN & TETLEY/ PITTSBURGH" on the left ricasso. Equipped with a functional steel oval guard, with turned edges, and the grip is a single unidentified bone, secured with a rivet through the tang and using a natural joint as the pommel.

Rating Definition:

About good. The blade shows a mixture of a gray patina with patches of shallow brown spotting, along with some light handling marks. Grip is good, with a few age cracks, mixed darkened color, and well defined grain. A prime example of a Civil War-era American combat knife.
