Active in the 1860s and 1870s, Crookes Brothers was one of the Sheffield firms producing blades for the American export market. Blade is 6 3/4 inches in length, with double edges, a spear point, the marking "CROOKES/ BROTHERS/ SHEFFIELD" on one side of the ricasso, and acid etched wreaths on one side with the text "DO NOT DRAW ME/ WITHOUT REASON", "NOR" and "SHEATH ME/ WITHOUT HONOR". German silver cross guards with a slight downturn to the quillions and engraved floral patterns, and semi-circular German silver panels on the pommel. Grips are smooth bone with light pommel swells and a thin oval inscription panel on one side. With an imitation leather sheath and German silver throat and tip.

Good, with small areas of dark patina on the bright blade, with the etched text slightly faded and mild sharpening marks. Silver fittings are good, with light handling marks and a well aged patina, and the grips show a few small chips and a fine color. Sheath is fair, with some material loss, cracking of the body and dents on the metal.
