Description:

This is an example of a transit manufactured by Blanther and Adam. Formed around 1871 and closing in 1891, the Blather and Adam Company of St. Louis Missouri specialized in manufacturing, selling and repairing mathematical instruments. Brass construction, approximately 11 inches tall with a 10" long telescope. The compass is marked with the Blanther and Adam logo and "No. 5647". In an unmarked wooden case with a locking hinged lid and brass hardware. Included is a surveying chain.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with the brass having been polished. A level is missing the bubble. All markings are clear. The case is good with several repairs (done with nails and brass screws), a cracked lid and is missing side handles and a latch.
