Description:

1) Luftwaffe officer's visor cap, dark blue/gray wool crown and a woven black band, trimmed with silver wire piping, with an embroidered Luftwaffe eagle and cockade on the front, a silver wire chinstrap, and a black/green patent leather visor. The interior is marked "EREL" on the gray leather sweatband, "53 1/2" on a paper tag in the rear, and silver "EREL/Sonderklasse/Privat" maker's marks on the yellow rayon lining beneath the sweat diamond. Notes from a previous consignor indicate this cap as being formerly of the George Petersen collection, who in turn acquired it in Germany in the 1970s. 2) Luftwaffe enlisted field cap, dark blue/gray wool construction with two aluminum buttons on the functional ear flaps, an alloy wire Luftwaffe eagle patch, brown leather sweatband and a white rayon lining. A faint marking, possibly "7", is visible inside the crown. 3) Early pattern SS cap, black twill crown with black velvet band, white piping, metal "small eagle" and "totenkopf" badges, silver chinstrap, black leather visor, brown leather sweatband, and RZM markings under the sweat diamond. Provenance: Items 1 and 2 formerly of the Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, with light handling marks overall and mild staining of the interior. The lining is torn/detached in the left rear of the cap. 2) Good overall, some thinning and staining. The eagle patch is stitched through the inner lining, and has come loose at the bottom of the swastika.
