Description:

This Colt Model 1855 Root Revolver was commercially manufactured during the Civil War in 1862. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "ADDRESS COL COLT/NEW-YORK U.S.A.", and the left rear is marked with a "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proof mark. The same proof marks alternate in each cylinder flute and one flute is marked with the 1850 patent date. Brass cone front and frame notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened hammer and loading lever, and fitted with smooth varnished one piece walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 40% plus original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the back strap and scattered areas of smooth brown and gray patina. The hammer has a smooth silver gray patina. The action needs work, the hammer doesn't always hold a cock position and the cylinder doesn't rotate when the hammer is cocked. The grip is very good with a minor chip on the left heel, some minor lower edge wear and some minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear.
