This is an excellent example of a late production Colt Medium Frame Lighting Rifle that was manufactured in 1902, close to the end of production for the Medium Frame Lightning (production stopped at serial number 89,777.) The rifle has a German silver Rocky Mountain blade front sight and adjustable sporting rear sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two line Hartford address/patent dates ("COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED MAY 29. SEPT 18. 83 MAY 26. 85 JUNE 15. 86. FEB 22. 87") ahead of the rear sight and "44 Cal." at the breech. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Rampant Colt. The serial number appears on the lower tang. All blue finish with a casehardened hammer. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with a border lined forearm and a crescent buttplate.

Excellent plus. The rifle retains 97% plus bright original high polish blue finish showing some light scratches and high edge wear overall. The buttplate is thinning, showing a mix of original finish and a smooth brown patina. The wood is very good, with a chipped toe and mild scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent.
