Manufactured in 1925. According to factory records information provided by the consignor, this shotgun was manufactured on May 23, 1925 and was the 207th New Ithaca Double produced and 1 of the 300 first year manufactured guns. It is designated as a "Salesman Sample". These guns were used by salesman to demonstrate the design, quality, and features of the New Ithaca Double model. Based on information provided by former Ithaca employee, Keith Houghtling, included in Walter Snyder's book "The Ithaca Gun Company, it's estimated that only 560 4E New Ithaca Double shotguns were manufactured. This is a rare full option 4E Trap gun that features double ivory beads on the matte vent rib, has 2 3/4 inch chambers, chokes gauge at full/full, with ejectors. The barrels are blue with jeweled flats marked with the matching serial number and "4". The casehardened receiver has floral engraving with a duck in a marsh scene on the left side and a pheasant in a field scene on the right and marked "ITHACA, N.Y." on the right side and "ITHACA GUN CO." on the left. The water table is marked with the serial number on the right side and "4/12" on the left. The same engraving pattern extends to the casehardened break lever and blue trigger guard. Cocking indicators, tang mounted safety/selector, single trigger and mounted with a Fleur-de Lis, fancy bordered checkered forearm with horn forend insert and inset diamond shaped piece of pearl ahead of the knuckle and pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, adjustable Kick-eez recoil pad and gold initial shield. Length of pull is 14 1/2 inches, drop at comb is 1 1/2 inches and drop at heel is 2 inches.

Excellent. The barrels retain 95% original blue finish with some thinning to a plum patina. The trigger guard retains 95% original blue finish showing some edge wear and some minor spotting. The receiver retains 90% original bright case colors with some fading to a silver gray from normal handling. The wood is also excellent with some overall scattered small minor dings, light scratches and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The engraving remains crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent. An excellent example of a rare full option, first year production Ithaca 4E New Ithaca Double salesmans sample shotgun.
