Description:

Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1908. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that states that it was shipped to the Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Company in Boston, Massachusetts on May 16, 1908. The letter describes the revolver as caliber ".45/c" with 7 1/2 inch barrel and blue finish. The grips are not listed. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the barrel is marked "45 COLT". The caliber designation "45" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt Three-Dates/Two-Line patent markings followed by the circled Rampant Colt trademark. The assembly number, "4776" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The left front trigger guard bow is stamped with the Colt "Triangle/VP" proofmark. A "6" assembler's mark is stamped on the left rear trigger guard bow and in the hammer well. The serial number "302561" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The two-piece black hard rubber grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt trademark in an oval at the top of the grip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 60% plus of the original high polish blue overall. The barrel has minor scratches and edge wear with some very fine pitting at the muzzle and one small spot of pitting on the left side above the ejector rod head. The side of the ejector housing shows holster wear. Most of the blue finish on the trigger guard and back strap is intact; there is some thinning on the back strap finish. The cylinder has several small areas of fine pitting. The frame and loading gate retain 40% of the casehardened finish with strong case colors. There are several small areas of discoloration and some very fine pitting on the recoil shield, loading gate, top strap and sides of the hammer. The serial numbers, frame and barrel markings are sharp. The grips are in fine condition with some handling wear on the checkering. The action is crisp and functions perfectly. This is a very fine example of a pre-WWI Colt Single Action Army revolver.
