The barrel has the standard "V/P/eagle head/P" inspection marks with an "R" on the top. Low arch breechblock marked "U.S./MODEL/1873" and the lock plate is marked "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" next to an eagle with shield. Smooth straight grip stock with ramrod, 2 barrel bands, "SWP/1883" cartouche, circled script "P" in the grip area, a small "H" stamped directly behind the lower tang and smooth "US" marked buttplate. Complete with a U.S. marked Model 1873 socket bayonet, 18 inch blade, and a Uncle Mike's sling. The rifle appears to be one of the Model 1879 rifles refinished at Rock Island Arsenal during the Spanish-American War.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as Arsenal refurbished. The barrel has a smooth brown patina. The lock has a smooth bluish gray patina and the hammer and breechblock retain much of the case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The trigger guard shows 60% blue finish. The stock is very good with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents, with clear cartouche. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The bayonet has a smooth brown patina, with some scattered minor spotting. The sling is very good.
