This rifle was one of the 300 Model 1879 rifles that were part of the first U.S. Navy contract and delivered by January 1882 (a copy of a Navy memo listing Lee rifle purchases is included). The top of the receiver wall is marked with the serial number, two line address/patent date marking, and Sub-Inspector Henry Nettleton (HN) inspection mark. Additional HN marks are stamped on several parts such as the magazine catch and bolt (most collectors identify this inspector with the U.S. Colt Cavalry SAA's!). Barrel marked "WWK/US/[anchor]" at the breech. Equipped with the standard Springfield Model 1879 buckhorn rear sight base graduated to 500 yards and stamped "R" with a leaf stamped "N" and graduated to 1,300 yards. Mounted on a straight grip stock correctly without stampings.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The rifle retains traces of original blue finish in the protected areas with the overall balance a mottled gray patina showing some minor pitting. The stock is fine with a number of minor pressure dents and scratches and a couple of filled repairs on the wrist.
