Description:

This is an example of a Webley-Pryse top-break, double action, revolver that was manufactured circa 1878. The revolver has a nickel-plated finish with one-piece and checkered walnut grip with a lanyard ring on the buttcap. The top of the barrel rib is roll-stamped: "P.WEBLEY & SON BIRMINGHAM". The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with an arrow followed by "WEBLEYS". The Webley "Winged Bullet/W&S" trademark is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame in front of the six-shot cylinder and the serial number "10717" is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame ahead of the trigger guard. Small British proof marks are stamped in each cylinder flute. The revolver is complete with a leather covered, oak, English style case with red felt lining. The top of the case is embossed with the initials "J.B.I.". A dealers card engraved: BLISSETT & SON/38. SOUTH CASTLE STREET,/LIVERPOOL is attached to the inside of the lid. The case has six compartments including a thirty-round cartridge block and contains: (1) a pewter oil bottle, (2) fiber and wire bore brushes and (3) blued steel cleaning rod with brass head.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 85% plus of the period nickel-plated finish. There are some scattered and very minor areas of flaking on the barrel, frame, cylinder and butt. The grip is heavily varnished and very fine. All of the markings are crisp. The action is tight and functions well. The case exterior is good overall. The leather cover shows moderate handling wear and a strap or handle has been removed from the side of the case. The case interior is very good. The red felt lining is bright, clean with three minor torn spots in the bottom lining. The dealer's card is fine. This is an attractive example of a cased, Victorian Webley-Pryse double action revolver.
