Description:

This is an example of a top break double action revolver that was manufactured by Christopher George Bonehill circa 1875. The revolver has a hinged frame, six-shot fluted cylinder, octagon barrel with dovetail mounted front sight, two-piece checkered walnut grip and lanyard ring on the bottom of the frame. The medium frame revolver has a high polish blue finish with bright finished hammer, trigger and cylinder pin. The left barrel flat is engraved "BONEHILLS NEW PATENT EXTRACTING PISTOL". No other markings are visible on the revolver. The revolver is complete with a mahogany case with screw reinforced lid and round brass escutcheon. The case interior is lined with blue fabric and has six compartments. The case contains a pewter oil bottle, wool bore swab and ebony cleaning rod with brass tip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 75% of the bright high polish blue finish. There is high point wear and scattered flaking on the barrel, cylinder and frame. The trigger guard, grip strap and back strap have a blue-gray patina and retain 30% of the blue finish. The grips are also very fine with sharp checkering. The action is crisp and functions well. The case exterior is very good overall with an old illegible label is glued to the top of the lid and the lid is spattered with small spots of gray paint. The interior is good overall. The lining has some minor stains and compression marks. This is a very fine cased example of an early British hinged frame double action revolver.
