Description:

This is an excellent example of a very early WWI German Army Luger pistol rig that was manufactured by the Imperial Arsenal at Erfurt in 1914. This example is in the original 1914 serial number range with no letter block suffix and is in just spectacular condition overall. The chamber area is dated 1914 and the front toggle has the standard "Crown/ERFURT" markings. The pistol has the standard "Crown/Script" letter proofs next to an Imperial Eagle firing proof. This Luger has the correct Crown/Erfurt of Imperial Eagle proofs on all the various parts. The right top rear section of the barrel also has a small WWI Imperial eagle test proof. The overall pistol exhibits the very early Erfurt Arsenal style higher polished, blued finish versus the late rough machining with the same attention to detail and quality on the smaller straw colored parts. The pistol has the standard fixed front and rear sights and the correct extractor and safety markings. As noted this excellent early example Luger that is all matching to include the two original WWI nickel plated magazines. The original wood bases are marked with "Crown W/2203/Crown D" proof and "Crown W/2203/+/Crown D" proof. The holster is also an excellent early 1914 military version that is deeply stamped on the front section under the flap: "MIL. EFFEKTEN/JUL. RICHTER/DRESDEN/1914" with the inside of the flap ink stamped in a box "M.G.K./I.R./25", and is complete with an Imperial marked takedown tool.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with 99% of the original blued finish with only very minor edge wear on the edges of the side plate hump. The various small parts retain 98% of their original straw colors. The grips are excellent with nice sharp checkering on both sides. The early leather holster is also in just exceptional condition with bright shiny leather surface. The stitching is tight and the markings are crisp and very pronounced. This early Erfurt Luger has all matching numbers to include the two original wood base magazines. An extraordinary 1914 Erfurt Luger rig that cannot be improved on.
