Description:

This is an excellent original example of a scarce Remington-UMC WWI U.S. Army Model 1911 contract pistol. These scarce pistols were manufactured in their own block of numbers from 1 to 21,676 in late 1918 and early 1919, with this pistol being produced in 1918. These pistols were manufactured by the Remington Arms-U.M.C. Co., Bridgeport, Connecticut Works and were produced only during WWI. Most of these pistols were disposed of after WWI because they did not conform to the tolerances required for interchangeability with the Colt Model 1911 pistol. The left side of the slide is roll-stamped in three lines, in two separate blocks as follows "PATENTED DEC.19.1905/FEB.14.1911.AUG.19.1913./COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO." followed by "MANUFACTURED BY/REMINGTON ARMS UMC CO. INC./BRIDGEPORT. CONN.U.S.A." in the second block with the circled, "REMINGTON/UMC" logo between the two blocks. The right side of the slide has the two-line markings "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45". The left side of the frame extension is stamped with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the final U.S. Government inspector's initials; "E.E.C."/"Eagle Head/E28" Ordnance inspection mark above the magazine release button. The serial number "NO4339" is stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger. A "P" proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel chamber, an "E" provisional inspection mark is stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow, on the rear of the slide above the firing pin stop and on the bottom of the main spring housing. The pistol is complete with one two-tone, flat base magazine.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original brush blued finish overall with some blue finish loss on the right/center section of the slide, mixed with some thinning of the blue and some brown patina spotting on the front grip strap, the top of the slide and the rear slide serrations. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides with minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent. One does not get an opportunity to acquire excellent original U.S. Model 1911 Remington UMC's very often!
