Description:

One of 4500 produced by A.H. Waters Armory, the Greene Patent Rifle holds the distinction of being the first bolt action rifle purchased by the U.S. government (900 were bought). Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the upper tang marked "GREENE'S PATENT/NOV. 17 1857." and the distinctive ring hammer on the underside, ahead of the trigger. Smooth straight grip stock, with a trumpet ramrod, three barrel bands (2 marked "U"), sling swivels and a smooth buttplate with storage compartment.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, with 98% of the original blue finish, with most of the bright niter blue present on the barrel bands and bolt handle, the latter otherwise showing a highly attractive niter blue finish, and some light handling marks overall. Stock is also excellent plus, with mild pressure dents and scratches. An opportunity to own a rare milestone in American martial arms design. This example is unissued and cannot be improved upon! Updated Information: The underside of the bolt is numbered "3201".
