Description:

Though no makers marks are present, the configuration of the guard and eagle suggest the work of William Ketland & Company of Birmingham. 28 1/2 inch single fuller curved blade, with niter blue panels, gold accented floral and martial engraving, and a "WARRANTED" banner on the right side. Gilt finished hilt, with pierced side guards, a ribbed bone grip section and an eagle head pommel. With a gold washed brass scabbard, with fine martial and American patriotic engraving, and a drag engraved and pierced through to form a serpent. With research material supplied by the consignor.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blade shows minor spotting and handling marks, retaining over 30% of the original niter blue and strong remnants of the gilt accents. Strong traces of gold are also present on the guard, concentrated in the low areas, with minor wear on the grip. The scabbard is a fine replacement, with over 40% of the original gold and an attractive patina on the visible brass.
