Description:

Serial number falls into the range of Model 1860 Spencer carbines produced from 1863 to 1865. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860". Six groove rifled barrel with the standard brass blade front sight and folding ladder type military rear sight, graduated to 900 yards. The left rear of the barrel and receiver are marked with an "M" and there is a "J" on the right side of the lever. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a "T" stamped on the underside near the receiver and straight grip stock with a sling swivel mounted on the bottom near the toe and saddle ring bar and ring on the left wrist.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a brown patina with a small amount of scattered minor pitting on the barrel and minor pitting on the receiver. The wood is fine with a few minor dents on the stock and overall a few very minor scratches and handling marks. The markings are legible. The action is excellent.
