Description:

This is a very nice example of an original, "unaltered" 1906 "First Issue" Navy military issue Luger pistol. These first issue pistols are extremely scarce as almost 99% were destroyed or at least reworked to a 4 inch barrel configuration after WWI to comply with the Versailles treaty. Out of the estimated total of 21,000 manufactured there were only 460 reported to date, (as noted on page 159, Imperial Luger J. Still). As noted this pistol is still in its original unaltered condition, with the original "GESICHERT" safety markings in the LOWER position. It has the characteristic six-inch Navy barrel, with the two-position (100 and 200 meter) Navy rear sight, grip safety, stock lug and wooden magazine base with concentric circles on the side. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the correct DWM markings. The left side of the barrel extension has the single "Crown" firing proof next to a double "Crown/M" Navy acceptance proof, both are also repeated on the left and underside of the barrel. The left side of the breechblock has a single "Crown" firing proof. It has the standard military serial number placement with the full number on the frame, underside of the barrel with the last two digits on the various small parts. It is complete with one original nickel plated Navy magazine with wooden base that is stamped on the underside with a single "Crown/M" Naval proof over number "6720".

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the faded original rust blue finish remaining with the balance turning a mixed blue/brown patina overall. The left side of the muzzle and barrel show some light pin-prick size pitting. The various small parts retain 10% of their original straw colors. The grips are very good overall with good checkering, with wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with a few minor handling marks and light pressure dents. This scarce First Issue Luger pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above, the firing pin, which is unnumbered and the grip safety which is mismatched. Still this is a very scarce early Navy issue Luger pistol.
