Description:

This is a first issue altered Navy Luger that is scarce as most were destroyed or at least reworked after WWI. This is an example of a 1906 DWM, first issue altered, Navy Luger with the characteristic six-inch Navy barrel, two-position rear sight, grip safety, undated chamber area, and wooden base Navy magazine with concentric circles on the side. The right side of the barrel extension is correctly unmarked and the left side has the two small crown proofs, next to a double Crown over "M" Navy proof, with "GERMANY" stamped directly below that on the frame rail, indicating this pistol was exported out of Europe (in the 1920s). The underside of the barrel has a single "Crown/M" Navy proof over the serial number "7673". The top of the chamber is unmarked and the front toggle has the DWM markings. Since this pistol is a first model altered, the lower safety area markings have been milled off, with the upper safety area correctly stamped "GESICHERT". The extractor is correctly marked "GELADEN" on the left side. The full serial number (7673) is stamped on the underside of the barrel and front of the frame and the LAT two digits, (73) correctly stamped on the various small parts. The rear grip strap is marked "W.K./2485", which indicates this pistol was originally issued out of the Navy Depot at Kiel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the arsenal dipped blue finish remaining overall with wear and finish loss on the edges and high spots overall. The various small parts retain traces of their straw colors overall. The grips are in fine condition showing nice original checkering with minor wear across the tops of the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
