Description:

This is an excellent example of a cased DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. This example is in excellent condition that shows only minor handling marks and is complete with an original matching DWM factory numbered walnut shoulder stock. These carbines were an early attempt to produce a lightweight rifle substitute to compete with the various stocked pistols being produced throughout Europe at this time. These models all have a longer and heavier barrel that requires a small spring accelerator housed inside the forend to correctly cycle the action during firing. This forend attaches to a hanger mounted on the front end of the frame. All these 1902 carbines have the desirable early features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the DWM logo for "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken". The full serial number (24262) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension, and the underside of the barrel, with the last two digits of the serial number (62) marked on the various small parts. The forend is also correctly numbered (262) inside the frame extension cutout. Both grips are correctly numbered (62) on the back side of each grip panel. As noted the stock is also completely original and unaltered and correctly numbered on top of the attaching iron (262). This pistol is complete with three original tin-plated wood base magazines. The magazine has a nickel plated body with the correct unmarked wooden base. This exceptional Luger carbine rig is housed in an original French fitted wooden storage case with green leather exterior with wine red lining, that houses the pistol, stock, the two spare magazines, original cleaning rod and pin-punch.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% of the original blue finish overall with only minor wear on the edges of the side plate hump. The grip straps and muzzle are excellent. The various small parts also retain 98% of their bright straw colors. The forend, grips and stock are also all in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on all three pieces with 95% of the original varnish/finish on the wood components with only minor handling marks/light pressure dents in a couple of areas. The outside of the case is in fine condition with most of the original green leather exterior with wear and leather loss on the corners and a couple sides of the lid with some of the leather on the underside showing wear and wrinkling. The corners are all intact and tight and the red lining inside is also in excellent condition showing only minor wear over the years. As noted above this Luger carbine has all matching numbers. Just an exceptional example of the desirable Cased DWM Model 1902 luger carbine rig
