Description:

This is a excellent example of an late WWII Inland production M1 carbine that has been converted into the infrared sniper model by equipping it with the late production M3 infrared sniper scope. The carbine itself has the standard receiver markings with the rear of the receiver stamped with the serial number. The front of the barrel is stamped "INLAND MFG. DIV/GENERAL MOTORS/9-44". It is currently fitted with the various late production features such as the late "SI" marked type III front barrel band/bayonet lug, late "IA" marked round bolt, "EI" marked flip safety, correct "PI" marked operating slide, late type four Inland trigger housing with the sideways Inland logo, and a "HI" marked hammer. It is fitted with a late production M2 pot-belly stock, correctly marked "IO" in the sling slot and a late production four rivet hand guard. As noted the rear sight has been removed and an M3 infrared mounting bar has been installed in its place. The M3 infrared sniper set-up that accompanies this carbine is complete to include the original large green M3 storage/carrying case, the original power pack, two M3 batteries (one new in the box, one used), the actual M3 scope with infrared collector on top, the various attaching cables to actually attach the power pack/battery to the scope and the original rubberized back pack to carry the complete power pack and battery. In addition this lot has, one original electron tube (new in the original box), three light source/lamp bulbs, one power vibrator, one rectifier bulb, two packets of fuses, two desiccant packs, three rubber connector covers, the various cables to connect the scope, pistol grip assembly and infrared collector to the power pack and battery source. In addition this rig has the following extra items, a Korean War era green web sling, an original small tool kit, an extra M3 sniper scope cable, rare rubber lens cover, a separate 6 volt/6 amp battery charger (new style not an original WWII rack charger), charger cable to charge the battery, reproduction Operations and Maintenance Instruction manual (TM5-9342 that includes instructions and wiring diagram on how to charge the batteries using this charger), a SONOTONE battery maintenance manual and small plastic SONOTONE battery wrench. The scope, battery, power pack and accessories are all contained in the original green case, which is stenciled on top of the lid "U.S./SNIPERSCOPE/INFRARED / SET NO. 1, 20000 VOLTS". The scope itself is marked on the nomenclature plate "CORPS OF ENGINEERS/U.S. ARMY/TELESCOPE/SNIPERSCOPEINFRARED/CAPEHART-FARNSWORTH CORP./ FORT WAYNE IND." It is serial numbered 882, and the date of manufacture is 6-22-51.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall as arsenal refurnished with 95% of a dark green Korean War era reparkerized finish with slight wear on the receiver rail and rear of the bolt from cycling the action. The various parts as noted above are all in excellent condition and have a nice matching color overall. The stock and hand guard are both in excellent condition with minimal handling marks with an old hand rubbed oil/varnish finish. The underside of the stock on both sides of the trigger housing has been sanded lightly, however the rest of the wood is excellent. The case and various accessories all appear to be in excellent condition (although) we haven't operated the scope and power source. If you were ever interested in trying one of these Infrared rigs, this would be the one as there are plenty of spare parts, with an excellent looking carbine.
