Description:

This is a very desirable prewar large type Nambu pistol commonly called a "Papa" Nambu version. These were a continuation of the earlier Grandpa versions of the Nambu pistols usually without any provisions for a shoulder stock, and were a standard issue to both Japanese Army and Navy Officers. Approximately 7100 total were produced before production changed to the later standard Type 14 model. This pistol was produced under the Army contract and is so marked with the Kanji characters on the left side of the frame. The top of the receiver has the four intertwined cannon balls and the right side of the frame has the three Kanji character both signifying the "Koishikawa-Arsenal" over serial number 6050. These pistols retain the larger adjustable tangent rear sight, graduated from 50- 500 meters with a fixed inverted "v" front side, with a grip safety on the front of the grip strap. The grips are the later, large checkered pattern that have taken on a very dark look, both are numbered "6052" on the backsides. It is complete with one original nickel plated Papa magazine with the original aluminum base numbered 2060 on the spine of the magazine.

Rating Definition:

Fair with the blue finish having browned out with finish loss on the grip straps, grips safety as well as the edges and high points overall. The grips as noted have taken on a dark appearance, and are both in good condition showing wear across the checkering on both sides. The two magazines are also in fair condition. Mechanically good.
