Description:

The body of the sextant is marked "U.SC.&G.S. NO.431", suggesting use by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, so named in 1878, currently a component of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Brass and steel construction, with a silver measurement band with magnifier, wood handle, and a set of 5 objective lens inserts in a wooden transport case.

Rating Definition:

The sextant is good, with mild handling marks and a dark aged patina on the silver. The index shade glass is absent. Case shows mild wear and dents.
