The receiver, lower tang, hammer, lever and lock plate feature a broad floral scroll engraving. The replacement single barrel band is thin at the top and wide at the bottom and has provisions for a screw on the underside. The sling bar has been removed and replaced with a unique magazine cut-off. The top of the receiver is marked "SPENCER REPEATING/RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS/PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860" and the serial number is marked at the rear. The underside of the barrel under the forearm is also stamped with the serial number. The carbine is mounted on a smooth forearm and straight grip stock.

Rating Definition:

Good as period engraved and elaborately silver inlaid. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with the remaining metal surfaces having a mottled gray patina. There is some scattered minor pitting. The magazine is missing. The wood is good with a couple missing chips, a repair on the forearm, a few hairline cracks and a number of pressure dents and scratches.
