The serial number appears on the lower tang along with "1865." The barrel is fitted with a pinched blade front sight and a three leaf rear sight, with the leafs marked "1", "3" and "5". The left side of the rear sight base is marked with the letter "N" and the left side barrel flat is marked with the letter "S". The letter "S" is also on the saddle ring base and buttplate tang. The barrel and buttplate are blue, niter blue hammer and casehardened remaining parts. There is a saddle ring and bar mounted on the left side of the frame and the carbine is mounted with a smooth oil finished walnut straight grip stock with two sharp boxed cartouches on the left wrist and a small "M" on top just ahead of the buttplate tang. The stock is correctly without a patch box.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 95% original blue finish showing some minor thinning and the buttplate retains scattered traces of original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The hammer retains nearly 95% original niter blue finish. The remaining metal surfaces retain 75% original case colors showing some speckling of dark patina. The stock is very fine with some minor pressure dents. The cartouches are crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
