The letter opener measures 15 1/4 inches long with a 8 1/2 inch long blade. The width of the blade is 1 inch at its widest point. The hardwood has a very attractive grain pattern. The pommel is a carved head of a solider. The carving was done by a well accomplished wood carver and shows exquisite facial details. We have another one of these in auction that is inscribed by a Confederate Louisiana soldier.
