Description:

The first edged weapon produced by N.P. Ames of Massachusetts on U.S. military contract. The Foot Artillery Sword was meant to serve as both a combat weapon and as a utility blade. Measuring 25 3/4 inches long, with a 19 1/4 inch straight triple fuller blade, bearing the Ames scroll logo on one side and "U.S./J.H./1862" on the reverse. Single piece brass hilt, with "J.H." on the guard, scaled grip, and American Eagles on the pommel. With a brass and black leather sheath.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, with mild handling marks and spotting on the excellent blade. The brass shows a fine aged patina. Sheath is very fine with some cracks and tears on the leather and a pair of pins absent from the throat. One will look a great deal of time to find another example as nice as this one.
