Description:

This is a late Civil War production New Model 1863 Carbine made without a patch box. Manufactured from 1863 to 1865, this carbine is fitted with a sling bar and ring on the left wrist. Blade front sight and Lawrence Patent folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the three line address and "NEW MODEL 1863" behind the rear sight. The left rear flat is marked with the inspection mark "E.A.W." The left side of the frame is marked with the two line Sharps patent marking and the lock is marked with the two line Sharps and Lawrence patent date markings. The sling bar base is marked "E.A.W." and the saddle ring base is stamped "T.W.R". A small "W" is stamped on the left side of the barrel band and on the lower tang. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with two clear boxed inspection cartouches on the left wrist and carbine buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown patina with flashes of original case colors in the protected areas of the lock around the hammer. The wood is also good with overall scattered minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
