Description:

Manufactured from 1860 to 1865. Three line "MASS. ARMS CO." address on the right front of the frame and four line "1851/1859" patent marking on the left side, with the saddle ring and bar on the left side. Blade front and three leaf folding rear sights, with "N" on the rear sight base and "S" on the left rear barrel flat. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock, with two cartouches on the left wrist and a smooth buttplate . These carbines were issued to such Cavalry units as the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The carbine has a mottled brown patina. Missing the hammer screw and a lower tang screw. The refinished stock has a repair near the upper tang, hole drilled near the upper tang, weak cartouches and a few minor handling marks.
