Description:

Measuring 7 inches wide and 2 1/4 inches thick, this canteen is made from black painted hardwood with black painted iron bands securing it together. Each side has markings in red milk paint with copper colored shadows, with "1863" on one side and "C.S.A" on the reverse. Separate from the main body are a wooden spigot and plug, both unfinished. Included with the canteen is a photocopy of a letter from Brendan Synnamon of The Union Drummer Boy, which describes the features of this canteen.

Rating Definition:

Fine with over half of the black paint finish, showing mild scuffing and wear overall. A few of the sling retention straps are absent. Detail in the paint is very good.
