Description:

The lock plate is marked "WARREN/& STEELE/ALBANY." Fixed sights with an empty dovetail slot behind the front sight, fish hammer with floral engraving. Stock has a pewter forend cap, German silver band at the butt and German silver oval inlay on the butt. The spur trigger guard is German silver. With a wooden shoulder stock. Consignor notes state that this pistol and the "B" pistol of this lot came from the Thomas Charlton Henry Collection. Lt. Col. Thomas Charlton Henry was a Union Army surgeon during the Civil War. He also studied Ornithology and there is an article about him in the book ORNITHOLOGISTS OF THE U.S. ARMY MEDICAL CORPS. When the war between the states began, even though his health was still not good, Dr. Henry volunteered to serve in the Union Army. He had resigned from the Army in 1859 before the Civil War began. He lived in Kentucky until his death in 1877.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel has a mottled gray patina with some scattered light spotting. The barrel rib is slightly loose near the muzzle. The action has a smooth gray patina. The stock is poor with crude period repairs using copper and German silver panels. Mechanically good.

Description:

Lock plate marked "WARREN/& STEELE/ALBANY" and barrel marked "N. LEWIS/TROY." Nelson Lewis was a renowned New York gunmaker and is known for participating in a shooting match with his rival gunmaker Morgan James in 1854. Fixed sights, belt hook, fish hammer, set trigger and floral engraving. The stock has a pewter forend cap, German silver band at the butt and German silver oval inlay on the butt. The spur trigger guard is German silver.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains streaks of original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The action, breech plug and barrel tang have a smooth gray patina. The German silver is fine. The stock is very good with a couple small cracks and a number of minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
