Description:

The exceptionally well made barbute style helmet is a 1-piece forging with a rivet applied reinforcement for the "Y" shaped opening, a rolled bottom edge, and an etched makers mark on the right side showing the outline of a man over the initials "WR". The rest of the components have the Gothic style features. Single hinge mitten gauntlets, winged elbow and knee cops, swirled embossed rondels with a 1 inch welded spike in the center, and long sabatons with a flat tip. There is a lug on the left side of the breast plate for attaching the removable lance rest. With a 95 inch long 16th century style halberd. Stands 68 inches tall x 24 inches wide x 22 inches deep and has a plain black painted wooden base that measures 12 1/2 inches tall x 14 inches wide x 18 inches deep. Crafted in the 20th Century. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

Very good, there are areas of minor pitting overall with some areas of heavy pitting on the tassets. The pauldrons and knee cops have small cracks at the sharp corners. There is a 3 inch section of cracking/oxidation on the left greave. A nice example of quality workmanship. Base is good with a few drilled holes for mounting and moderate wear overall.
