Description:

Measuring 42 1/2 inches overall, with a 35 1/2 inch double edged blade, with running wolf engraving capping off the short quillions, which are marked "SAHA UN", and a crowned maker's mark on each side. Iron guard, with an enlarged curled rear quillion bearing a floral stamp, and a pierced-through ventilated guard, showing 4-dot "squares" alternating with 8-pointed stars. The marks on the ricasso attribute this sword to Pedro Lopez De Toledo & Orgoz, Spain in the 16th century. The grip is wrapped wire, with a ball topped round pommel. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

Fair, with a mixed gray patina overall, showing mild spotting and pitting. Some dings are present on the edges. The grip is tightly wrapped, all the furniture is firmly in place, and the blade straight. This sword is definitely worthy of further research!
