Description:

1) Measuring 26 1/2 inches overall, with a 20 inch blade, showing 17 bends and an asymmetric base with filed decoration and a pair of silver bands. The grip section consists of alternating sections of twisted silver wire and gold washed brass rings, terminating in an engraved silver band and capped with a flared ivory pommel in a Fleur-de-Lis profile with carved border lines. With a solid brass sheath, the throat of which interfaces perfectly with the silver base bands, decorated with triangular diamond and horseshoe pattern stampings, inlaid silver triangle, "S", scroll patterns and a golden teardrop insert at the top of each side. 2) Philippine kampilan-pattern bolo, 25 3/4 inches long with a 19 3/4 inch blade, cast brass guard with wire accents and a hardwood sheath with cord wrapping. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

1) Fine. A deep brown patina is showing on the blade, bright on the high points, with mild spotting and handling marks. Some minor cracks are visible in the pommel which shows a finely aged color and grain. A dark aged patina is showing on the sheath, with some minor loss of inlay near the tip. 2) Fine, with some minor pitting and chipping on the blade and mild wear on the hilt. Sheath is fair.
