Description:

The heavy brass barrel is relief carved with a bird of paradise in a tree from the rear sight to the tip of the forearm. The assarum blossom Mon of the Tokugawa (Royal) family is engraved behind the rear sight. The front of the barrel is carved with two milled rings and one smooth ring. The muzzle itself is bell shaped and the integral front sight is on top of it. The lockplate, tailpipe, and barrel band are lightly engraved with floral scrolls. Two decorative buttons on the left side of the stock are also stamped with the Mon. The wood of the stock has a more pronounced grain than is normally found on matchlocks.

Rating Definition:

Fine with traces of gilt finish, mostly a mellow patina turning dark from handling on top of the barrel. There is a short crack at the tip of the forearm. Mechanically fine.
