Description:

This is an excellent example of an original DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig that is complete with the matching shoulder stock, two spare magazines and accessories all contained in a deluxe leather bound walnut storage/display case made by the HUEY gun case company. These carbines were an early attempt by DWM to a produce a light weight rifle substitute, to compete specifically with the Mauser Broomhandle carbines as well as all the other stocked pistols being manufactured in the later 19th and early 20th century in Europe. The unique feature of these pistols is that they have the longer, 11 3/4 inch barrel, with the DWM factory frame hanger that holds the small walnut forend. This forend is also unique in that inside it is fitted with a small spring accelerator mechanism, that is necessary to correctly cycle the heavier/longer carbine length during the firing phase, by assisting the barrel/upper receiver back into batter. All these 1902 Luger carbines have all the rare and desirable early features such as: the long old style frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, and the recessed/flat breech bolt with the small spring extractor. The top of the chamber is blank and the front toggle has the "Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken", DWM logo. The full serial number (24423) is correctly marked on the underside of the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number (23) are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, side of the grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt and toggle assembly. The forend is also correctly numbered (423) inside the cutout for the frame extension and also matches the pistol. The grips are not numbered on the back side however each one has a small asterisk stamp on the back sides. As noted fine example of a Luger carbine has the original attaching iron correctly numbered on top (423) that has been fitted with a correct reproduction walnut stock. The stock itself conforms exactly to the original version in all aspects; length, checkering and finish which has been fitted with a correct style plastic buttplate and original sling swivel. The pistol magazine, as well as the two spare magazines, have a nickel plated body with the correct wood base. As noted this wonderful carbine rig is housed in an original style, leather bound, red lined French fitted display case. The case itself contains, a brass cleaning rod, screwdriver and cleaning brush all with turned ebony handles and one box of Peters 7.65mm Luger ammunition. The display case itself is approximately 21 inches long by 12 inches wide and features all oak construction with brass reinforcing plates on the corners with bras hinges, front locks. The entire case is leather bound in a heavy grade of premium leather with leather reinforced corners and a heavy leather strap handle on the front. Inside the case it has a red felt lining with a gold and black label on the inside the lid that reads "DWM/Berlin Parabellum-Pistol" and is complete with a heavy cloth/canvas outside cover.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 97% of the original finish with wear on the edges and high spots. The straw colors remain 70% intact and are original. The walnut stock is also excellent with nice sharp distinct checkering with a couple of minor handling marks on the side of the stock. The case and all the various accessories are all excellent. The Luger and attaching iron have all matching numbers except the three magazines and walnut grips, which are all unnumbered. Just a wonderful example of a DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine rig.
