Description:

This is an excellent example of a early post WWI Weimar era, S-Code Simson P.08 Luger Police pistol that was manufactured by the Simson and Co., in Suhl Germany. This specific pistol has the undated chamber area with the smaller single "S" code marked front toggle along with the small "Eagle/33" acceptance proof. The meaning of these early single "S" codes has not been fully explained, however they are certainly one of the earliest of the Simson & Company lugers made. As noted this is a Police Luger, this is very rarely encountered with a fully functional and active sear bar over the side plate and a complete and fully active magazine safety spring on the left side of the frame. Almost 99% of these parts were rendered inactive in the early 1930s. It has the military style serial number placement with the full serial number on the major components with the last two digits on the small parts with the Eagle/6 rework proof on many of the small parts. The serial number of this pistol is in the correct "a" suffix serial number range for these early Police contract Lugers. This number falls about mid-way in the documented serial number range of these Police luger with the highest serial number recorded as being 646a, indicating a very low overall production. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the typical small "Eagle 6/81/and 67" acceptance proofs along with the single Simson & Co., final "Eagle" firing proof. The left side of the barrel is stamped with a small "Eagle 6/Crown RC" proof indicating a late WWI out of tolerance parts was used and reproofed by the Simson Company. The right side has the corresponding Simson final "Eagle" firing proof. It has the standard safety and extractor markings along with the standard checkered walnut grips. It has the all rust blued, metal finish with straw color on the small parts. This scarce Luger is complete with one matching, nickel plated magazine with the aluminum based marked: "Eagle 6/461/a/+/Eagle 6". It is complete with an original black leather police holster marked on the back side: "SCHAMBACH & Co./BERLIN/1931".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish with minor holster wear only. The smaller parts retain 80% of their straw colors overall. The grips are both in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides showing minor handling marks overall. The holster is also in fine condition with nice tight stitching overall with just some minor wear marks of the leather on the edges and high spots such as the corners and edges of the magazine pouch and lower toe area. The markings are crisp and sharp. As noted this rare S-Code Luger has all matching numbers to include the magazine.
