Description:

This is an outstanding example of an early DWM Model 1908 German Navy Luger with a unique holster rig. These were the standard pre-WWI Navy Luger issued to the Imperial German Navy all the way through WWI and even into the Weimar era. This series of Luger is easily to identify in that it lacks the grip safety from the 1906 models and it has the second pattern (upper) marked safety area with no chamber date. The top of the chamber area as noted is undated and the front toggle has the standard "DWM" logo. The left side of the barrel extension has the double crown/M" proofmarks with the smaller Imperial "crown" firing proof, the later being repeated on the left rear section of the barrel and the "crown/M" proof also stamped on the underside of the barrel. It is numbered in the military manner with the full serial number stamped on the major parts with the last two digits (74) correctly stamped on the various small parts. As noted the magazines that accompany this pistol is an original pre-war Navy versions that have the nickel plated body with the wooden bases that has the concentric circles on the ends with a single "Crown/M" Navy proof. The holster has the single leather strap and buckle on the front. The lower portion of the holster is stamped with the large "L.Z.A./Flying Eagle/H.Strassburg" acceptance proof. The back side of he holster has the double belt loops and double "D" rings on the back with the original (matching) leather shoulder strap that is attached to the holster by the two snap hooks on the ends of the shoulder strap to the "D" rings. The holster has the single cleaning rod pouch sewn on the side, with the pouch for the takedown tool on the inside of the flap. It is complete with a brass tipped steel cleaning rod and unmarked blue takedown tool. The holster is marked with a single "crown/M" acceptance proof on the inside of the flap and the front of the holster is boldly stamped "F.J. DANIEL/BUHL 1/B.".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish overall with just a hint of wear on the side of the muzzle area and the very edges of the side plate hump. The various small parts retain 90% of their straw colors overall. The grips are excellent with nice distinct/sharp checkering on both sides mixed with some minor handling marks. The holster is also excellent with nice tight stitching. Excellent color overall with clear sharp markings. The Luger has all matching numbers except the magazines noted above. A very scarce pre-WWI 1908 Navy Luger in outstanding condition.
