Description:

Manufactured in 1870, this model was very successful commercially. The top of the barrel rib is marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS.", the three patent dates are marked around the center of the cylinder and the matching serial number is marked on the butt and stamped on the inside of the right grip panel. The matching assembly number "442" is marked on the frame under the grip, on the front cylinder face and on the back of the barrel lug. Blade fixed front and notch rear sights and fitted with smooth rosewood grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the 5 inch barrel, nickel finish, rosewood grips and that it was shipped as 1 of 150 to M.W. Robinson, New York, N.Y. on October 18, 1870.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 98% original nickel finish with some mild flaking on the edges of the barrel lug and frame around the cylinder and on the outer frame edges. There are a few minor dings and some areas are beginning to frost. The grips are very good showing 95% of an old coat of varnish and showing some lower edge wear and a few scattered minor dings and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A rare and high condition No. 2 Army.
