Original 7 7/8 inches wide, 4 inches deep, 1 1/2inches thick gutta percha case. Known as the "Pistol" case, due to its depiction of a #1 First Issue revolver on the lid. Also on the lid are a number of smaller revolvers, 4 shields and some scrollwork in each corner, along with the legend "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/SMITH & WESSON/SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS". Inside the case is padded purple velvet with a floral design in the center inside the lid and red felt on the bottom, along with a 55 .22 caliber cartridge block.

Fine. The right hand corner of the lid has a moderate chip absent and directly below that is a repaired chip. One of the bases is absent from the interior and cartridge block is chipped along outer edge. The lining and hinges are excellent.
